Frank O'Hara was a curator
for B.K.
Hey, I'm a curator! I'm a poet!
Today it's elephant dung sublime –
Chris Ofili and his temple of the monkey.
I'll put the colours in here
once we've seen it.
OK, no complications –
this is almost all you can ask
of a two hour lunch hour.
Facetious has all the vowels
to soften the facts. Irreverence R Us.
Co-workers of the World Unite!
(but only in pairs & in Prêt à Manger –
that's French isn't it? –
and without Diet Coke
let's keep things light –
it doesn't mean you're not
the Bee's Knees.
Not only initially,
you are the Bee's Knees.)
Ah, that's the buzz over – swipe, click,
14.30. "Back to work happy, very
possibly so."
This poem was originally published in the St Andrews poetry magazine The Red Wheelbarrow. At first meant for
Earliest Spring Yet and then Rays it missed the final cut in both cases.
